Probablemente, despues de Trojan, el sello de skinhead reggae mas lengendario sea Pama, y dentro de Pama, sin duda, el sello mas legendario es Nu Beat. Este sello venía a ser lo mismo que Crab a Derrick Morgan, pero con Laurel Aitken. Se dice que Laurel firmo un contrato con Carl Palmer (uno de los creadores de Pama) justo despues de este último pagase su fianza(Laurel tuvo algunos problemas con la ley en Inglaterra, pero de eso ya hablaremos otro dia) Sus opciones eran seis semanas de carcel o trabajar para Pama. Laurel no necesito mucho tiempo para decidirse.

El sello duro tan solo desde 1968 hasta 1971. Tres años en lo que definió lo que mas tarde seria conocido como Skinhead Reggae. Dentro de este subsello se grabaron la mayoria de los mejores temas de Laurel Aitken (Reggae 69, Skinhead Train, John B...) asi como grandes clásicos de la historia del reggae: Push Push de The Termites, Lala means I love you de Alton Ellis, Hey Boy, hey girl de Derrick & Patsy, Etc

V.A - Independent Jamaica: Songs of freedom from treasure isle

En estos dias, en los que varios pueblos oprimidos buscan su independencia del yugo del estado español, resulta interesar recordar la importancia que tuvo el Ska y el reggae para Jamaica. Tras su independencia, los jamaicanos buscaban una cultura propia, y la musica no estaba exenta de esto. Frente al R&B estadounidense que dominaba la isla, surgió el Ska como algo netamente jamaicano que podía hacer frente a los ritmos extranjeros. Así, rapidamente, Jamaica adopto el ska como sonido propio, y el Ska, se inundo del sentimiento patriota que recorria la isla tras su reciente independencia del imperio britanico

R.I.P Alton Ellis (1 Sep 1938 - 10 Oct 2009)

Tristemente, hoy es el primer aniversario de la muerte de uno de los musicos jamaicanos mas innovadores, el conocido como "padrino del rocksteady", Alton Ellis

Alton Nehemiah Ellis, nace en Trench Town (Kingston) en 1938, hijo de un ferroviario y una vendedora de fruta. En su familia, la cultura musical estaba muy arraigada, por lo que aprendio a tocar el piano con muy poca edad. En un principio, Alton quiso hacer carrera como bailarin, sin embargo, acabo pasandose a cantar, formando en 1959, junto a Eddy Perkins, su primer grupo: "Alton & Eddy" que, bajo la produccion de Coxsone Todd en Studio 1, consiguio un gran exito con el single "Muriel"

Mas tarde, Eddy se marcho a vivir a los Estados Unidos, por lo que el duo se deshizo. Alton Ellis, tras esto, consiguio trabajo en una imprenta, aparcando su carrera momentaneamente. Despues de perder su trabajo, intento montar otro grupo con John Holt, pero este acabaría siendo miembro de los Paragons, por lo que Alton, otra vez, tuvo que formar otro grupo, que en este caso fueron the Flames.

Alton siguio grabando bajo la produccion de Todd, aunque en Treasure Isle. Destaca que, en una epoca en la que la mayoria de cantantes (Derrick Morgan, Bob Marley etc) hacian apología de los rude boys jamaicanos, Alton Ellis hacia apología en contra de ellos, con temas como "Dance crasher" o "Cry tought". Con los Flames, consiguio cierto exito por temas como "Girl I´ve got a date" o "rock steady" cancion que menciona por primera vez el nuevo genero que dominaria Jamaica en los 60. Su disco "Mr Soul of Jamaica", esta considerado el mejor album de rocksteady de la historia

En 1967, Alton dio una gira en Inglaterra junto a Ken boothe y los Soul Vendors como banda. Tras esta gira, empezo a trabajar con productores Ingleses, por lo que acabaria estableciendose en Inglaterra en 1972

Alton Ellis siguio en la escena musical hasta que la salud se lo impidio, en el 2007, se le fue diagsnosticado cancer de las glandulas linfaticas. Sin embargo, tras recibir tratamiento de quimioterapia, Alton consiguio reunir fuerzas suficientes para volver al escenario.

Fallece Alton Ellis, el 10 de octubre del 2008, en el hospital Hammersmith, Londres, debido al cancer. La Ministra jamaicana de Informacion, cultura, juventud y deportes, Olivia Grange dijo "Incluso mientras lloramos a Alton Ellis, debemos agradecerle su monumental contribucion a la musica popular jamaicana". Fue enterrado el 3 de noviembre del mismo año, en una ceremonia donde se celebraba su carrera musical y su vida. En el funeral estuvieron familia y amigos, personas del gobierno, fans, gente de la industria musical y algunos artistas musicales que le rindieron tributo: Winston Francis, Ken Boothe, Judy Mowatt, Tinga Stewart entre otros

Sin duda alguna mi disco favorito de toda la Argentina,fue el primer trabajo de esta banda de Buenos Aires, tambien data del año 1987 y tambien esta cargado de una influencia 2 Tonera considerable.En 1988 sacaron otro disco que no tuvo nada de exito e integrantes de la banda se fueron,siguieron activos pero ya no era como antes.
